St Giles Hotel in Central London Review

The St Giles Hotel in London is a really cheap option for a stay right in the heart of London.

Located just 2 minutes walk from Tottenham Court Road tube station the hotel is perfectly located with easy access to the Northern Line and the Central Line. So whether you are heading north, south, east or west, you are ideally situated to start your journey across London.

Book direct with the hotel or through a booking site, don’t get ripped off by package tours that will charge over the odds.

I first stayed at the St Giles hotel when visiting London for one of the NFL games at Wembley. I decided to book a package with Thomson Sport, although I didn’t know it at the time, this was probably the most expensive way of booking this hotel. I only needed a single room and when you book direct, single rooms are very cheap at this hotel, for Central London. But Thomson Sport charged me a massive single supplement. You can understand this if you are getting a double room with one person staying, but I got a single room. So what I got should actually have cost less, not more. This is not a criticism of the St Giles hotel, rather the ripoff merchants at Thomson Sport travel.

Getting back to the hotel review – the St Giles hotel is massive, with hundreds of rooms. Most of them are basic, but if you just need somewhere to lay your head for the night, and use as a base for a weekend in London, the St Giles hotel is great. Just don’t go in with unrealistic expectations.

Here’s a short video from YouTube showing some of the highlights of the St Giles Hotel in London.

For a busy weekend, I would suggest you avoid the breakfast at the hotel. There are hundreds of people wanting fed at the same time, so the queues can be very long. And the breakfast room kind of reminds me of a school cafeteria. Top tip – go around the corner, towards the tube station, and there are two or three cafe restaurants that serve a reasonably priced breakfast and you can avoid the crowd. Or there’s always McDonalds if that’s what you want, just past the tube station.

The rooms in the hotel are nothing fancy, but they are practical with everything you need for a weekend stay. The single room is shoebox small, but if you don’t plan on spending much time in the room it is fine.

I have stayed at the St Giles hotel in London several times, and I have already booked for this autumn. It may not be flash, but the prices are very economical, and perfect for the weekend visitor.
